USCIS Issues Form I-9 Scam Alert

USCIS recently issued an alert warning of scam emails that appear to come from USCIS and ask employers for Form I-9 information. The alert advises that employers are not required to submit Forms I-9 to USCIS.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has resumed premium processing for all H-1B visa extension of stay petitions. Premium processing is now available for all types of H-1B petitions.

USCIS No Longer Taking Petitions Under H-2B Increase

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is no longer accepting petitions from U. S. employers seeking to hire temporary nonagricultural workers under the one-time increase to the Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 H-2B cap announced in July. Petitions submitted but not approved by USCIS before October 1 will be denied, and any associated fees will not be refunded.

USCIS Resumes Premium Processing for H-1B Petitions Subject to FY 2018 Cap

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has resumed premium processing for all H-1B visa petitions subject to the fiscal year (FY) 2018 cap. The FY 2018 cap has been set at 65,000 visas. Premium processing has also resumed for the annual 20,000 additional petitions that are set aside to hire workers with a U.S. master’s degree or higher educational degree.

Minimum Wage for Covered Federal Contract Workers Will Rise to $10.35 Per Hour

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced that the minimum wage for workers performing work on or in connection with certain federal contracts will rise to $10.35 per hour ($7.25 per hour for covered tipped employees) beginning January 1, 2018.

U.S. District Court: Connecticut Employers May Not Fire or Refuse to Hire Medical Marijuana Patients Regardless of Federal Law
