The WARN Act

The federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) offers protection to workers, their families, and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of certain plant closings and mass layoffs. The chart below contains general WARN provisions; additional requirements and exceptions may apply, including in situations involving the sale of a business. Contact the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration for more information, and contact your state labor office for state requirements.
